Al Browne is the Director of Health Design + Innovation for Johns Hopkins University & Medicine. He serves as the manager of Johns Hopkins Ward Infinity (JHWI), an Impact Accelerator. His work focuses on the intersection of entrepreneurship, technology, AI, and human behavior, with a particular emphasis on designing innovation systems that improve community health, strengthen early-stage entrepreneurship, and accelerate the responsible adoption of digital tools.

JHWI is a structured, applied-learning model that integrates human-centered design, AI readiness, and milestone-based venture-building for community-rooted ventures. Ventures under his direction have collectively generated more than $25M in revenue and investment and have become a growing part of the region’s health and tech innovation landscape. He also directs The Power Shift Forums, a JHUM thought-leadership platform exploring how AI and emerging technologies can advance health, environmental sustainability, and economic resilience.

Prior to joining Johns Hopkins, Browne held senior innovation roles across corporate and nonprofit sectors. At Verizon, he served as Vice President of Corporate Social Responsibility, managing a $33M national technology and education portfolio and launching digital learning platforms used by 3.5 million educators. At CPDC, he secured more than $50M in partnerships and pioneered early models in residential broadband networks and senior telemedicine. At AARP Foundation, he expanded technology-based aging and social-connection initiatives in collaboration with Amazon and Microsoft.

Browne has served as an adjunct professor of forensic psychology and social psychology at Washington Adventist University and the Catholic University of America. His previous board service includes the W.E.B. Du Bois Library Board at UMass Amherst, and he currently serves on the Academy of Hope Board and the Leadership Council of Creating Healthier Communities.

He holds degrees from Washington Adventist University and the City University of New York. His most humbling and joyful responsibility is being a father to his daughter.
