AI for Health Equity (AIHE)
The Quest for Responsible AI in Medicine
Artificial Intelligence for Health Equity (AIHE) is a multi-disciplinary, collaborative effort across multiple Johns Hopkins institutional assets. Faculty leading the effort are affiliated with the Center for Digital Health and Artificial Intelligence (CDHAI) at the Johns Hopkins Carey Business School, the Bloomberg School of Public Health, the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine, and the Whiting School of Engineering. AIHE aims to address the promises, challenges, and ethical dilemmas of Al in health care, and to serve as springboard for research, outreach, and policy efforts. AIHE’s activities include the Quarterly Breakfast Series and an Annual Symposium. Topics cover critical areas such as Al governance, health equity assurance, the foundational infrastructure required for equitable Al solutions, and implementation science for AI Health Equity.

Responsible AI for Health Symposium (RAIHS)
The Inaugural Responsible AI for Health Symposium (RAIHS), a part of the Nexus AIHE events, took place on August 29, 2024, in Washington D.C. The goal of the symposium was to convene experts in the field who have approached Responsible AI and Health from diverse perspectives in their scholarly work. During the symposium, participants addressed the promises, challenges, and ethical dilemmas of Al in health care, with a special focus on the tenets of responsible AI development.

Nexus Awards
AIHE is supported in part by the Johns Hopkins Nexus Award. The Nexus Awards, a university-wide initiative launched in 2023, support convening, research, and teaching anchored at Johns Hopkins in D.C. at 555 Pennsylvania Ave. NW. These esteemed awards recognize projects and programs that encapsulate the vast range of faculty expertise, from artificial intelligence and health policy to the arts, humanities, global health, and gender equity.
